Community event with Southway Housing Trust

18th Jan 2022

Southway Housing Trust and Manchester City Council residents partnered in December for a clean-up community event with support from Greenfingers.

The Environmental & Sustainability manager from Southway Housing Trust, Peter Jordan, and Customer Involvement Manager, Maureen Ward, planned the community event after conversations about how Southway Housing could improve the local environment with the Easthope and Strathblane area residents.

Southway Housing Trust appointed Greenfingers for additional support as they have successfully worked together on a previous community grounds maintenance project. A small team of Greenfingers staff and team leader Ryan Owens represented Greenfingers on the day.

What a turnout

The day was a success, with many residents turning up to lend a hand with litter picking, weeding, and creating new growth in the flower beds with the donated flowers from Southway Housing Trust.

Ryan and the team spent the day supporting residents with the clean by assisting in the landscaping, clearing footpaths, and firing up the power tools to tidy up the tree & bushes interfering with site lines.

Peter Jordan, Environmental & Sustainability Manager at Southway Housing Trust, commented, “Ryan and Steve were a real asset at the community event. They played a key role in our community action day working, with residents and staff from Southway, and represented Greenfingers exceptionally well.”

The result

Overall, it was a productive day for the Greenfingers team and the Easthope and Strathblane residents. The community improvement event resulted in two full site skips, cleared footpaths, and new flowers being planted.
